🚗 Less than 2 hours from Chicago 📍 Matthiessen State Park (neighbor to more popular Starved Rock State Park) 🥾 Hike through Matthiessen’s 5 miles of winding trails and discover cascading waterfalls, breathtaking rock formations, panoramic views of the Vermilion River, exposed sandstone canyons, and mineral springs tucked throughout the park. 🙌 Matthiessen is smaller and less crowded than Starved Rock, and IMO more stunning! ⭐️ Some of the highlights along the trails include Lake Falls, Giant’s Bathtub, Cascade Falls, and the colorful Devil’s Paintbox. All of them are featured in this reel! ✨ My favorite hike is Dells Canyon Trail…it is the mix of landscapes packed into a short 2 mile hike. One minute you’re walking along panoramic bluff views above the canyon, and the next you’re down inside the dells surrounded by moss-covered sandstone walls, mineral springs, caves, and waterfalls. 💦 Wear waterproof shoes!
