Forsyth medical center should be ashamed of how they messed up up her life forever. On a Saturday morning she wasn't feeling well. It was enough that we called to have EMS come and check her out. Her glucose was 410 and her BP was 230/110. They told her she was in danger of a stroke and needed to go to the hospital. She was transported to Forsyth Medical Center at 11:30. When she arrived, she was showing right side weakness, a slight drooping of her lip, and slurring her speech a little bit but not terribly. They did a CAT scan and the ED doctor said he saw no reason to keep her and told her he was releasing her. No medication was offered. Her sister told him the stroke signs she was seeing and asked him to keep her longer, but he said there was no need and she was sent home. After being home for a couple hours, she was rushed back with her symptoms getting worse, but she was still communicating. She was told she was having a stroke and needed thrombectomy. We asked them about administering the medication first, but I was told she was outside the window and they thought thrombectomy was the best option right now. (They had concrete evidence from the previous CT that she was NOT outside the window.) We felt they should try the medicine first, but they're the experts. She told me she was scared and was still able to communicate just fine. I told her she was in good hands and it would be ok. She was taken back for the procedure. Something went terribly wrong during that procedure. We were all in the waiting area and were never talked to by her surgeon or any other medical personnel. He left for vacation that night. He still has not spoken to us. When Monica and I were taken back to see her after the procedure in the Neuro ICU, she was saying,

She was seizing terribly, yelling, and trying to pull out tubes. It was horrifying. Monica and I begged her nurses to help her. They just said this was normal after that procedure. Mostly they were sitting outside her room. These seizures were happening every twenty to thirty seconds for at least 30-45 minutes. Several times during that time we asked the nurses for help and asked the surgeon or doctor to come and get eyes on her. The doctor never came. The nurse got me an ice pack to try to stop her spasms. They sent a nurse practitioner in the room who also just said this was normal after a thrombectomy. Still no doctor. We didn't even see a doctor until the next day. Two days later we learned from a new doctor that she did have good collaterals and her communication and comprehension were still viable after the procedure. The doctor said he thought she must have had a seizure after the procedure that killed those collaterals. Monica and I KNEW that she was having seizures and begged for help, but the nurses and the np were incompetent and didn't know that those seizures were causing damage. She should have been given anti seizure meds immediately. They basically put her in that room and left us to care for her while she was suffering terribly immediately after a brain procedure. After the spasms finally calmed, she could no longer communicate. The left temporal lobe has been completely damaged. There is severe damage to communication and comprehension, some vision loss, and the right side may not regain movement. It's been one disaster after another at this hospital. We did get her here in time for this to be a minor issue. They have medication that can even reverse effects if the symptoms aren't too terrible. Her symptoms were minimal when she arrived. We know she has been a most faithful servant to a loving God who knew all this would happen. We were heartbroken and frustrated, but trusting for a miracle.
