I tried watching it but I really hated the production style (music choices and over dramatization) / hired actors reenacting young EDP from childhood- like this isn't like a civil war reenactment

Dude. Yes. I hate this so much, just search up EDP on TikTok right now, hundreds of thousands of likes MEMEing it, and thousand mores in the comments laughing and eating it up. This ironically is how trump won, they humanize you by making you “funnier”

Catching bad guys is good of course, but one thing To Catch a Predator did not do well is explain that the predators are far more likely to be family members or close friends as opposed to people online. It would have been a better, more important and effective show had it focused on educating people about what abuse looks like as opposed to taking a more sensational route. Kind of gives more evidence to those who think Chris Hansen was too into the ratings and entertainment side of things.

I’m still okay with the movie painting him out to be a morally grey anti-hero so long as they don’t paint the predators out to be sympathetic or wrong done by. That’s my line in the sand. I’d much rather the movie just leave us with the question of “is this behaviour warranted if it’s done in the pursuit of a righteous cause, and where do we draw the line, especially when the pursuit of the cause causes the behaviour to backfire on itself” than just being an unnuanced lambasting of a project that did objectively do good in catching several predators and educating people about online creeps.

"If it had been me" Chris, if it had been you apparently there's a 50% chance you'd have fumbled it too, according to your track record. Chris Hansen is a vulture who circles notable internet predators to swoop in when the time seems right and then sells the story off for profit. I find it so hard to believe this man cares about victims of these crimes more than he does lining his pockets. I think he's an opportunistic grifter who knew what type of target would shield him from criticism. Can't criticize him without someone getting reactionary and accusing you of defending child predators.
