This piece caused quite a stir on social media. I'm talking about the John Lennon portrait I did on the arm, it took almost 3 days, 23 hours total. Let's start from the beginning. When I say "high level" tattoo, I mean the amount of detail, saturation, contrast, and cleanliness of the work. Realistic greywash is built in layers, almost like sculpting. For example, to capture texture and the look of wood on a guitar, I had to build it up in 4 layers. That's risky overworking the skin can cause scabbing or even infection if it's not done properly. So you have to work slow, with the machine on low speed, and use very small needle groupings, which can slow the work down by half. If you want to recreate every texture, wood, fabric on a shirt, hair, or light reflections, it all takes time 🤷‍♂️ especially at a small size. The head in this piece was only about 5-6cm. Now imagine fitting every detail in there like hair, shadows on the face, even the metal texture on the glasses frames. You're working with needles as fine as the ones used for blood tests. And don't forget, you still need to saturate everything like 3-4 layers. Suddenly the head alone takes 4.5-5 hours. Hope this clears up some doubts.
