@cartierlists: While not as well remembered as the Lancer Evolution, the Galant VR-4 was actually Mitsubishi’s first high performance all wheel drive platform. Well, not this particular model, but the 6th generation Galant VR-4 is considered the grand father of the LanEvo. By the time the 8th generation Galant came around, Mitsubishi already had the LanEvo and 3000GT VR-4 models as flagship performance models, yet they still gave it the VR-4 treatment, along with a unique wagon variant that went on to become a JDM fan favorite, the Legnum. Despite not being Mitsubishi’s top of the line sports car anymore, the 8th gen Galant was a true showcase of Mitsubishi’s advanced technological capabilities at the time, sporting top of the line engine, transmission, and handling technologies like direct gasoline injection, advanced mechanical AWD system, active yaw control, fast shifting INVECS-II transmission, and computer controlled stability and traction control systems. The fact that all of this was paired with a twin turbo V6, optional 5MT, and a wagon variant that spared none of the sporty features is a special thing, something that you don’t get to see very often.
