One thing I used to find almost impossible to imagine was the Christian claim that God could know billions of people individually, hear their prayers, and interact personally with all of them. Then AI made me reconsider that intuition. We’ve now built systems capable of individualized interactions with enormous numbers of people. That obviously doesn’t prove God exists, and ChatGPT isn’t a conscious divine mind. But it did force me to admit that my argument from incredulity wasn’t nearly as strong as I thought. If finite humans can build something that operates at this scale, I can’t simply dismiss the possibility that a sufficiently powerful intelligence could do something far beyond it. But then another question appears.
