i dont think people get the message of this movie. its two teenagers who were never given the childhood they wanted and reze showed denji a glimpse of what that ordinary life could’ve looked like, going to school, spending time together, swimming, talking about nothing and just being teenagers, no devils, no fighting, no public safety, just normal life and just for a brief moment they actually got to experience that possibility together but what makes this even sadder is that reze chose denji willingly in the end despite originally approaching him because of her mission, and being a weapon who was literally conditioned, controlled and told what to do by others her entire life, she finally had the chance to think and decide for herself for the first time and somewhere along the way she really did want that normal life and saw it in denji. reze is also one of the few people who understood denji as denji, not chainsaw man and that connection is what made everything feel so real for him but we don’t even know if they would’ve actually worked out in the long run, maybe they would’ve had boring conversations, arguments, awkward moments and eventually realised they weren’t meant for each other, but we never got to see any of that because their possibility of a normal life together was taken away before it even got the chance to breathe and that’s what makes this movie so bittersweet AND even then, reze’s impact doesn’t disappear with her absence but that’s kinda the whole point. she’s gone, but she still changes denji, she still represents that “what if” of a normal life that he can never fully unsee. the story lingers on that feeling, that even brief connections can reshape someone, and that’s what makes her presence in the movie feel so lasting despite how little time she actually had. beautiful movie tho and hope this helps
