@ktbunton: And I have ordered them from most to least impactful! So many thoughts on how I managed to get my unmedicated water VBAC in a hospital setting! It was definitely NOT a fluke, every step of my labour and birth was part of a plan that I spent so much time preparing myself for You can definitely have an unmediated birth without any of this stuff too but for me these all played a significant role 🫶🏽 #VBAC #unmedicatedbirth #birtbstory #waterbirth #positivebirth

Also if you can’t afford a doula - I had a student midwife and highly recommend! I did it initially to help the student but when in labour she helped me so much

Statistically the worst thing you can do if wanting a low intervention birth is choose a private obstetrician. Australia has an incredible public health system and many public hospitals have midwifery group practice programs where women have a known midwife who is on call for their birth and does home visits postnatally. I’m not at all saying your choice was wrong, just feel it’s important to share this information as so many women miss out on MGP programs simply because they didn’t know about them.

I wanted to go unmedicated until I was induced at 8cm dilated with pitocin and the contractions just never stopped they just kept hitting me back to back… I begged for the epidural

I disagree with you that there’s a greater chance of going unmedicated in private vs public. I think if you look at statistics it’s the exact opposite. Private will push you to medicate. C Sections also way more common in private. I had 4 babies (2 unmedicated, 2 medicated) in a public hospital in Sydney. Absolutely no complaints. If things go wrong in a private hospital patient is often transferred to public with better doctors and facilities. Also stop pushing “the birth that you want” as if one way is better than another.

I decided on a whim to go unmedicated the day I was induced. Even my husband was surprised. Needless to say, this all sounds MUCH more reasonable.

Coming in here to say if you don’t have the funds for all of these you can absolutely do it yourself!! Poppy Childs and Great Birth Rebellion by Mel - great FREE podcasts on Spotify! 💪 coming from someone who had a two hour labour and skipped all of these tips ☺️(except the TENS agree it’s GREAT!!!)

You can definitely go public and still have continuity of care (I guess it depends on hospital!). I had the same midwife for my entire pregnancy both times and the 6 weeks after ☺️

As an Australian student midwife the only suggestion I would amend is to put the TENS on early - Just on a low setting and slowly increasing as your the pain intensifies. sometimes women hold out on it and put it on when they are in the throws of pain and the TENS isn’t strong enough to provide any noticeable relief. I’m glad it worked well for you xx

I had unmediated birth twice with none of these. Second birth I went to hospital to just push lol I was most talked about in the birthing unit. I was the lady that came in, demanding to push and my baby was out in 15 mins lol

I’ve had 2 births and the only times I’ve seen the OB each time was one appt through the pregnancy and then to stitch up my tears 🤣 I’ve had continuity of care through the same midwife throughout my second pregnancy and now this one too. You can have that continuity with public too, it’s not always that common to see and need an OB!

Continuity of care doesn’t just mean obstetric led! Lots of good evidence regarding public midwifery led continuity of care and fantastic birth outcomes in Australia.

One unmedicated birth and suddenly a pro 😂 3 is rubbish, my first birth l (unmedicated) was private and the ob was away on holidays as baby came early. Third (unmedicated!) was in a public hospital with the same midwife I’d seen the whole way through. Also 5 is untrue, use your tens from the beginning.

It should be mandatory for every mom to have a doula!!! I birthed with a doula and had my dream natural unmediated birth! The pain was so manageable with doula! Highly recommend one! 🫶🏻🥲❤️

My daughter gave birth at home 3xs with a doula. The last delivery #4 was via C-section. She highly recommends a doula.

I just gave birth to my 4th and had a precipitous labor. Totally unplanned unmedicated birth, I wish I would have prepared myself better mentally for the possibility of that happening. I was panicked the whole time my labor was 2 hours from start to finish. Water broke at 11pm she came right at 1am in under 2 minutes of pushing. Even if you’re not planning an unmedicated birth I encourage all mommas to at least educate themselves on some of these topics. 😅
