💔 TO ALL FAMILIES COMING TO AMERICA FROM OTHER COUNTRIES… PLEASE READ THIS! 🇺🇸🌍 My heart is absolutely broken over what happened to that 15-year-old young man in New York whose family came from Ghana. 💔😭 Imagine leaving your home country, coming to America in hopes of building a better life for your family, only for your child’s life to be tragically cut short. A CHILD WHO SHOULD STILL BE HERE TODAY! 🕊️ What makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking are the reports that this young man had already spoken up about being bullied. He reportedly went to his principal for help, and yet he still ended up losing his life. WHAT IS THE POINT OF TELLING CHILDREN TO SPEAK UP IF WE ARE NOT GOING TO PROTECT THEM WHEN THEY DO?! Now, I want to say something, and some people may not agree with me, but I’m going to say it anyway. To all my families coming to the United States from Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, Haiti, and every other country around the world, PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE DECIDING WHERE TO RAISE YOUR CHILDREN! Don’t just research the jobs, the housing, or the opportunities. Research the neighborhoods, the schools, the bullying complaints, the crime statistics, and how school districts handle violence against children. And YES, New York would be HIGH on my list of places to investigate thoroughly before relocating! I’m not saying everyone in New York is bad. I’m not saying every school is dangerous. And I’m certainly not saying violence doesn’t happen in other states, because IT DOES! But we cannot pretend that bullying and youth violence aren’t serious problems. We’re talking about children being bullied as early as KINDERGARTEN! SIX-YEAR-OLD BABIES! 😡 Even Cardi B has spoken out about this heartbreaking tragedy and the issue of bullying. WHEN DID GOING TO SCHOOL BECOME SOMETHING CHILDREN HAVE TO SURVIVE INSTEAD OF ENJOY?! Parents should not have to send their children to school wondering whether they’ll make it back home alive. And let me make something else clear. The responsibility for this tragedy does NOT fall on this young man’s family because they chose to move to America. The responsibility belongs to those who committed the violence, and any adults or institutions that failed to act when intervention was possible. America may be the land of opportunity, but every opportunity is not worth your child’s safety. Please, parents, ask questions. Visit the schools. Look into bullying policies. Talk to other parents. Research the communities. And most importantly, LISTEN when your children tell you something is wrong. To this young man’s family, I cannot begin to imagine the pain you’re experiencing. You brought your child here with dreams for his future, not to bury him at just 15 years old. 💔 HE DESERVED TO GROW UP. HE DESERVED TO FEEL SAFE. HE DESERVED TO BE PROTECTED. May his family find strength, comfort, and justice. 🕊️🙏🏽 And to every principal, teacher, and school administrator reading this: WHEN A CHILD TELLS YOU THEY ARE BEING BULLIED, TAKE IT SERIOUSLY! DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU’RE ATTENDING THEIR FUNERAL TO ACT CONCERNED! A CHILD’S CRY FOR HELP SHOULD NEVER BECOME A PARENT’S CRY AT A GRAVESIDE. 💔 #StopBullying #ProtectOurChildren #JusticeForOurYouth #SchoolSafety #Ghana
