what makes a watercolor expensive is how long the color lasts. so if you paint with a cheap watercolor, in a few years the color will fade, with an expensive one it will last decades

Hey as a person who's done watercolor for YEARSSS the paints are never the issue. Watercolors are like the easiest medium to make correctly, the only differences tend to just be saturation and shade range. The thing that really matters is the PAPER. Get watercolor paper, mixed media, or simply thicker paper. The watercolor needs to have paper that it can seep into. Splurge on paper less on paints. I prefer mixed media and leuchtturm sketchbooks. Though leuchtturm is pretty pricey 😭
