@propagandopolis: A collection of propaganda from the First World War. The pieces quote Bismarck’s speech to the Reichstag on 6 February 1888, which in full was: ‘We Germans fear God, and nothing else in the world! It is this fear of God which makes us love and cherish peace.’ The first here is a postcard published in 1914, designed by Karl Alexander Wilke. The second is a postcard from 1914 featuring the quote on a stone beneath a gauntlet, a dragon visible behind. Seems to have been designed by German artist Bruno Héroux. The third is a postage label (undated, First World War) showing Bismarck as a knight with the quote around him. The fourth is a postcard published for use by soldiers in 1914 and shows Bismarck with the quote. This fifth is a slightly strange one, published ca. 1914 and showing Kaiser Wilhelm as a knight peering out of a helmet. The sixth is a plate sold to celebrate the centenary of Bismarck’s birth, 1915. The seventh shows soldiers fighting below the Bismarck Monument of Hamburg. #History #ww1 #propaganda
