A person always finds an untravelled path alluring and mysterious. That’s very human. When you’re on one path, you can easily imagine the best version of the other path. Someone married may think If only I had remained single, I’d be free and peaceful. Someone single may think: If only I had married, I’d have someone beside me and wouldn’t be alone. Someone with children may think: If I didn’t have children, I’d have more freedom. Someone without children may think: I wonder what my life would have been like if I had children. The problem is that we compare our real life with all its bills, arguments, responsibilities and disappointments to an imaginary version of the alternative life where we only see the good parts. That’s where romanticizing the unchosen path comes in. But in all Regret ≠ wrong decision.
