@sf_artography: I honestly didn’t expect my ice skating video to blow up like this🐣 There have been so many comments. Some hateful and bitter, but thankfully, there are also SO many positive, supportive and respectful people here ❤️ So first, THANK YOU to all the awesome people who took the time to leave kind comments, and to everyone who has been following and supporting me. I truly appreciate you 🥹🩷 And to the keyboard warriors..instead of spreading negativity, go ice skating! 😂 You might actually feel happier afterwards and understand a little more about what it’s like to be on the ice 🙆‍♀️ Also, let me share something because I think there’s a little misunderstanding here. Most people know ice skating as simply gliding around on the ice. But what I’m doing in my ice skating videos is figure skating. Figure skating involves much more than just skating around. It combines skating skills, footwork, turns, edges, artistry, choreography and for ice dancing, a lot of musical interpretation and movement. What you’re seeing here is actually a normal training session for a figure skater. There are plenty of figure skaters training on the ice and this kind of footwork is completely normal. Nothing over the top 😆 And yes, we DO watch the people around us. We’re constantly aware of our surroundings, watching for other skaters and controlling our speed and direction so we can avoid collisions. The ice is a shared space for everyone 🩵 This is also a public ice rink, so naturally there will be many different people on the ice: beginners, children, families, recreational skaters and figure skaters training. Just like everyone else, I’m there to skate, have fun and train. In fact, I’ve experienced the opposite myself. I was simply standing on the ice once when someone came and hit me from behind. I wasn’t doing anything, he simply didn’t know how to control his skates and ended up banging into me, causing me to have a pretty bad fall. So it’s not always about what you’re doing on the ice. It’s also about how you do it. Knowing your ability, controlling your speed, being aware of others and knowing how to stop or change direction. And let’s be honest, ice skating is a sport with risks. Whether you’re a beginner, recreational skater or figure skater, everyone needs to be careful and responsible on the ice ⛸️ If you see a figure skater doing footwork, turns or practising their skills, don’t worry. We’re trained to control our movements and navigate around other skaters. Keep skating, enjoy your time, learn at your own pace, and let us enjoy ours too. There’s space for everyone 🙌 And if you think this is impressive, you should see international-level figure skaters. They’re doing jumps, throwing themselves into the air, spinning multiple rotations and performing incredibly difficult elements that take years and years of training. ⛸️✨ Figure skating is hard. The skills you see on the ice don’t happen overnight. There’s a lot of practice, strength, balance, technique and discipline behind it. So next time if you see a skater doing footwork, turns or practising their skills on the ice, don’t worry. Keep skating, enjoy your time, and let us enjoy ours too.
