@eii1la: Lian (W) Jasmine (K) Bright, warm light fills the venue. Lian sits with her friends, laughing between their stories. “Can you believe this is it?” Jamie says, grinning. “After graduation, no more all-nighters just to finish assignments.” “Tell me about it” Mico adds. “Next stop, real world. Jobs, plans… maybe even finally doing what we actually want.” Lian smiles. “Whatever happens, at least we get to start it together.” They keep talking about dreams, places they want to go, people they’ll miss — until a small group walks in, and there, right in the middle, is Jasmine. She’s wearing a soft dress that fits her perfectly, her movements slow and careful. She looks thinner than before, and something about the way she carries herself feels different now. Mico leans forward, voice lowering a little. “Have you noticed Jasmine lately? She’s changed so much. She looks so frail, and she moves differently now…” Jamie nods slowly. “I’ve heard. She’s sick, they say. It’s heartbreaking to see.” Mico turns to Lian with a knowing smirk. “Hey Lian… didn’t you hear? She’s got a crush on you.” “Really? Who told you that?” “I just hear it from our other classmates,” Mico says. “Besides, it’s obvious. The way she looks at you whenever you pass by, it’s different.” Lian shakes her head slowly, but a small, soft smile tugs at her lips. -------   A few minutes later, the music starts playing. Almost everyone stands up, looking for someone to dance with. “Come on, Lian!” Mico says, pulling her to her feet. “You guys go ahead, I’ll catch up in a bit.” As her friends walk away, Lian scans the room. Her eyes find Jasmine, sitting alone at their table, quiet and still. Lian hesitates for a moment, wondering if she should go over or not. But then she takes a deep breath and makes up her mind. She walks toward her, heart beating a little faster. She doesn’t know how Jasmine will react, if she’ll say yes, or if she’ll turn her away. “Uhm… h-hello, Jasmine.” Jasmine looks up, surprised, then her face lights up. “Lian…” “Mind if I sit with you for a while?” “Of course.” Lian looks at her. “Are you enjoying the night?” “Yes, very much.” Lian glances over at the couples dancing, then turns back to her, her voice soft and a little nervous. “Uhm… Jasmine… I just want to ask, may I have this dance?” Jasmine looks surprised. “Are you sure? I’d love to, but I get tired easily… and besides… I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep up.” “That’s okay, I don’t mind at all. We can take it slow. No rush, we have plenty of time.” She stands up and holds out her hand. “So… shall we?” Jasmine smiles. Then she takes Lian’s hand. “Let’s go.” -------   They sway slowly to the music, close together. “You look perfect tonight” Lian says. “Everything suits you, your dress, your makeup, even your hair.” “Really? I’m… wearing a wig. It looks natural, doesn’t it?” “It looks beautiful.” They fall quiet for a moment, still moving slowly. “Have you thought about what comes after graduation?” Lian asks. “I… maybe I want to travel. See places I’ve only seen in photos. And perhaps… I might take up art classes? I’m not sure yet. Maybe I’ll learn to play the guitar… or maybe just spend more time with the people I love.
