Even if I know damn well the video in itself is satire, after looking at the comments I came to the crushing realization that some of you, not many, but some, seriously think he has even a shred of a chance to even nick at the monster of an Enigma that is Cicada 3301.
Cicada 3301 is not just “a hard puzzle.” It is a chain of cryptography, steganography, programming, obscure references, linguistic analysis, online investigation, and sometimes even real-world clues. The 2012 trials alone involved hidden data, ciphers, book references, phone numbers, physical posters, and multiple layers where solving one stage only revealed the next. You need to recognize what kind of problem you are looking at before you can even begin solving it.
And then there is Liber Primus, the infamous runic manuscript connected to Cicada. Large portions of it remain unsolved, not because people simply lack intelligence, but because the actual cipher or method is still unknown. Finding a pattern is not the same as finding a valid solution. A real solution has to explain the data, reproduce the results, and survive verification.
Being a Harvard student, being intelligent, or being a Minecraft YouTuber does not automatically give someone cryptanalytic expertise. That is like saying a beginner chess player could beat Magnus Carlsen because they are smart and play video games. Intelligence helps, obviously, but it is not a substitute for years of specialized knowledge and experience.
And the word "alone" matters too. Cicada was historically approached through collaboration between people with different skills. Claiming that someone could solve the entire thing by themselves requires actual evidence of their ability in cryptography, steganography, programming, research, and problem-solving not just “he’s smart.”
I also want to make it clear that I’m not speaking completely out of my ass. I was one of the people who solved the 2012 trials. I’m a slight programming adept, I’m good with computers, I have average to high knowledge of steganography, and I know a little cryptography. That is specifically why I was able to solve the 2012. My answer is this : No he can't, not even close.
