@dierdrerae_: OCD is ranked in the top 10 most debilitating disorders in the WORLD (mental or physical) for a reason. The stereotype depicts OCD as being ‘Type A’, organized, or clean. It is seen as helpful or even a quirky/fun personality trait when it ruins so many people’s lives On average it takes 7-14 YEARS to receive a diagnoses. Because of the stereotype, it took me personally until I was 19 to get diagnosed. It took dropping out of college and being hospitalized to learn about a disorder I’d “heard about” my ENTIRE life! More people have ocd than you realize. It comes in so many forms. It’s also often misdiagnosed because OCD is so distressing that other disorders often develop because of it or they’re co-occurring. The more awareness, the more people are able to get diagnosed and receive the proper help. Because even though OCD is ranked in the top 10, it’s also extremely treatable through the right therapy 🫶🏻 (thank goodness!) #ocd #MentalHealth @NOCD
