@bye_bye_fatman: We’re quite fortunate where we’re staying at the moment in the west of England to have some beautiful lakes just up the road. Every few days, we take a little trip up there to do something I’d never really done before, bird watching! And I have to say, I’m really enjoying it. There’s something incredibly peaceful and therapeutic about sitting in a bird hide, looking out across the water and seeing what we can spot. The kids are really getting into it too, taking turns with the binoculars, scanning the lake and trying to identify the different birds. It might not have quite the drama of spotting the Big Five on safari like we experienced when we lived in Zambia, but it has its own kind of magic. The peace, the fresh air, the walk to and from the hide, and simply spending that time together as a family is wonderful. It’s wholesome, it gets us outdoors, and it’s teaching the children to slow down, look closely and appreciate the nature around them.
