@milk_drunk_club: This baby has a very visible tongue tie. She also breastfeeds beautifully. She transfers milk well. She’s growing. Mom is comfortable. And everything I’m seeing tells me this breastfeeding relationship is thriving. That doesn’t mean the restriction should simply be ignored. The tongue does a lot more than breastfeed, and restricted mobility may affect oral function beyond feeding as a baby grows. For this family, a release was still advised after looking at the whole picture. But this is such a good reminder that I never want to assess a tongue tie by appearance alone. I’ve seen obvious ties with beautiful function. And I’ve seen much less obvious restrictions in babies who are struggling significantly at the breast. The frenulum is one piece of information. Function tells us so much more. 🤍 #breastmilk #lactation #breastfeeding #newborn #breastfeedingtips
