I’m debt free but wife has $100k student debt at around 8%. I make $200K she makes $80K. We didn’t combine finances before marriage and she’s way behind me on savings, she has no savings but I have $100K in 401K + 15K emergency fund. Would you suggest paying down her debt as first priority or building up retirement savings

The 7% part honestly makes a lot of sense. I’ve got student loans that are under 3%, so hearing about this makes me feel a bit more comfortable about not rushing to pay off my debt so I can focus on starting to invest. Thank you for this!

Okay. How about this situation. 35. Lump sum to deploy. Have picked the ETFs. We know lump sum wins 7/10 times. But with these crazy valuations and ai booming, I feel like this could be one of the 3/10 times. Thoughts? (Talking $200k). Likely I will do half and half but just wanting your take.
