@clemreye: Pérouges, in the Ain region of France, is one of the best-preserved medieval villages in the country. Perched on a small hill, this fortified town has preserved its ancient walls, gates, stone houses, cobbled streets, and fortified church. Around 775 years ago, in the 13th century, these same streets were already filled with craftsmen, merchants, villagers, and men-at-arms. Today, walking through them almost feels like stepping back in time. Yet Pérouges nearly disappeared. After a long period of decline, the village was gradually restored during the 20th century and saved from ruin.
