I agree with your larger point, the tank isn’t dead. But I disagree that Ukraine isn’t an example of modern warfare because it doesn’t look like the U.S. military fighting at full strength. If anything, Ukraine is providing a preview of many of the problems even the U.S. military would have to solve in a major peer conflict.

Tanks are obsolete, simply being used doesn’t destroy that fact do tanks have a use? yes absolutely are they more efficient then the equivalent cost compared to lets say drones? No absolutely not For the U.S to build and maintain a M1 Abrams it’s about 12-15 million for a switchblade it’s about 6,000 dollars. So for the same cost as a tank you can get around 2 thousand switchblade which requires less risk to operators and can do significant damage to military assets

What you are long terming is asymmetrical warfare. Abram's are heavy slow and resource reliant entirely. One tank isn't worth the logistical issue that can be overcome with light infantry for half the supply issue and extraordinary anti armor capacity. The only countries we're getting data from are the ones battling in 3 dimensions. Ie ukraine and Russia. Force on force; tanks are obsolete. Cav just doesn't wanna conform

as a former Sargent major in the tank core i can absolutely say a tank is not just a gun , our tanks have great optics day and night and are connected to all the battle field units like an awacs plane that can identify and rely targets and also shoot 120mm rounds , 3 machine guns , 60mm morter , smoke grenades , smoke screens and 12mm machine gun used as a sniper rifle while transporting infantry squads in the back corridor. one tank is more than a whole company of infantry
