@cbsatlanta: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to spend $10 million to $20 million on gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks to help officers gain compliance from combative individuals. The devices, known as G.L.O.V.E.s, are made by Compliant Technologies LLC and can deliver an electrical shock when activated by the officer. A federal notice said a no-bid contract could be announced as early as Friday. Civil rights advocates, including the ACLU, expressed concern about the plan, citing criticism of ICE’s use of force during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. The manufacturer says the gloves should not be used as punishment or on children, pregnant women, elderly or disabled people, and officers must complete training and recertify every two years. Supporters say the devices can help safely subdue uncooperative or violent people, but advocates question whether they are necessary for civil immigration enforcement.
