I think true sadism is rare, but many many people experience a high from the control they exert over children - so they might feel bad afterwards but because of childish they justify it.

Thank you for validating the sadism. Both of my parents get real joy out of punishment and control. Also, my dad would laugh at me hysterically when I cried and there are just a lot of things that have made me realize that I think that’s what was going on

For me it was boundaries. There is someone in my family that is legitimately unsafe and not someone I am comfortable being around or having my children around. None of my family believes me or cares. I have set boundaries around this one particular individual, and I have been made to feel like a monster for doing so. I got tired of it, so now I don’t talk to anyone. I shouldn’t have to justify looking after my safety, and it sucks not being believed.

I have to say Kate that reflecting on things I have seen parents do to children in public: there are multiple times where people would probably be calling the police if it happened to an adult. I am very bought in on how serious childism is.
