If the moon were a solid object then the phases of the moon makes zero sense, because the earth doesn’t block the sun from hitting the moon and the moon in turn gives off cold light !! Which is what the moons light is, colder than the shade around it exactly the opposite of the sun. 🤷‍♂️Get it , it’s not possible.

If you have a large tube sticking from the ceiling but the surface of what you see is smooth and shine a light through that tube, it would look like a spotlight. But in order to replace the light-source you would need to remove it completely, which would leave the observer in shock. So to make it smooth a temporary blockage is inserted sideways on a higher level of mentioned tube. This would mean we wouldn't see a solid object outside the perimeter of the sun aka that tube. We only would see the black move inside that tube, showing us a solar eclipse. Only those right under that tube would see a complete eclipse. But as that tube is transparent as well, it shows as partially eclipsed elsewhere.
