OH MY GOD. As a hairstylist for 26 years. You always rinse out a perm. You need to rinse it for 10 min. It's washing the hair you can't do. Rinsing it stops the product from working and frying your hair.

The steps to a perm should always involve a hard water removing shampoo, rolling the rods, applying solution according to manufacturers instructions (most have a processing time of 5-10 minutes), rinse for min of 5 minutes, neutralize according to manufacturers instructions, rinse again, and remove rods

Oh, my Goodness! My mom used to give me home perms in the 70's and '80s. She wasn't a stylist, and she rinsed my hair for 20 minutes. You can't wash it, but you must rinse the solution out. How did the stylist not know this?
