@thematthewhussey: The early stages of seeing someone we like have us so focused on whether they like us, whether there’s chemistry, and whether things are moving forward that we forget to ask whether this person is actually meeting our deeper needs. We rarely ask ourselves whether this person makes us feel emotionally safe. Can we be ourselves around them? Are they consistent, communicative and respectful? Infatuation has a way of making those questions feel less urgent. Or maybe we’re afraid that if we answer them honestly, it will spell the end. But people, their character, intentions and capacity, always reveal themselves over time, and those questions we’ve been avoiding will ask to be answered. And when that happens, the kind of person you have in front of you and whether or not you’re compatible with them will mean everything.
