Nobody has ever explained all of Claude to you. But everything you've learned so far was level one: Level 1: Install the Claude app, even if you never use it. You’ll mostly use it in the browser, which is fine. But when you need Claude to access a folder, you don’t want to be downloading, logging in, and re-granting permissions while work is waiting. Set it up on a slow Tuesday—use it on a busy day too. Level 2: Escalate on failure, not on anticipation. Don’t pick the best model just in case. Start with Sonnet. If it gives a bad answer, that’s your sign the task is tough—then move up. Most of your work doesn’t need heavy brainpower, and the 5% that does will be obvious. When switching models, stay in the same conversation—Claude keeps the thread. Starting fresh means losing everything already explained. Level 3: One correct answer = low effort. It’s that simple. Tasks like ‘reformat this table’ have one right answer. Tasks like ‘should we price at 40 or 60’ require real thinking—let Claude analyze the trade-offs. Level 4: Count your messages before starting. If more than three back-and-forth prompts are needed, it’s not a chat task. Pass it to Cowork upfront. Avoid repeating context in different chats; set it up once, and start where you left off. Level 5: State the output format at the start. Specify upfront if you need a Word doc, Excel model, etc. This avoids long explanation prompts and saves time. Level 6: Turn corrections into instructions. If you correct Claude on something twice, that becomes a skill—like ‘never use em dashes’ or ‘always give the number first.’ Correct it once, and it’s learned. First 20 minutes priorities: 1. Install desktop app. 2. No unnecessary settings. 3. Connect just one tool. 4. Make one Project for weekly work. 5. Write one Skill from prior corrections.
