Daemon might be a better technical swordsman but he’s not the better fighter or warrior. There’s plenty of examples of a smaller warrior beating a bigger one. A close example is Barristan Selmy vs Maelys Blackfyre. Another example I can think of is Cole vs Harwin Strong. Harwin was called the strongest knight of his time but Cole was able to break his bones. Spoilers for the mad king play but if you take it as cannon Rhaegar beats Robert Baratheon.
