In just hours, a total solar eclipse will sweep across the globe — and NASA isn't just watching from the ground. They're chasing it. A WB-57 high-altitude research jet will race through the sky, hunting the Moon's shadow so its onboard cameras can capture the Sun's corona — that ghostly, wispy outer atmosphere you can ONLY see when the Moon perfectly blocks the Sun's blinding face. At the very same time, teams of students from the US, Iceland, and Spain will be releasing high-altitude balloons into the darkened sky, measuring how our atmosphere itself reacts when day turns to night in a matter of minutes.
