One of our classic family stories is: my grandpa went to West Point. He was from rural Arkansas. He had to announce lunch. He saw the Brussel sprouts. He’d never seen brussel sprouts before in his life. He called them “little cabbages”. He had to eat them and work out for days 😂

I graduated from Finnish military academy as bachelor of military sciences and ofc went to Finnish army. In army we have basically the same thing and at school a bit different but basically the same.

Sounds like they’re conditioning future officers to show up to formation after everyone else is at formation. Because on Active Duty no one alerts you and you’re expected to be there ten to fifteen minutes prior.

I used to work as a telephone operator at West Point, down in the basement of the building across from some of the housing. There were tunnels that would lead from the housing over into my building and we would get pizza and stuff. Also I would allow cadets to order from the pizza place outside the gate just by calling me and telling me and I put them through instead of to their instructors.

Graduating from West Point is no joke. I spent 21 years in the military. I wouldn’t be able to make it through that and know some who didn’t. Very much respect 🙏

Finnish defence forces conscripts does this too. But simpler. Sometimes they yell or use intercom. Where i was the minutes were 10, 5, 2 and 1.
