Explaining:blue leds were insanely hard to make bc blue light has way more energy than red light so you need a semiconductor with a much bigger band gap and thats where GaN came in but making good quality GaN crystals and getting them to conduct electricity properly was genuinely close to impossiboe you can do the math with E equals hc divided by lambda and for blue light at around 450 nm the photon has about 2 76 eV of energy while red light at around 650 nm is only about 1 91 eV so basically the shorter the wavelength the more energy the photon needs and thats why blue was such a pain to make it took decades before scientists finally got GaN and InGaN working properly and once they did it basically unlocked modern white LED lighting
