I think we shouldn’t focus on what took her from us but rather what she gave us. Spirit, sunny, gizmo, sandy,Luna. She was the queen mama and did EVERYTHING for her family. 🩵🥰

She was sick for 5 months, she was too far gone when she was rescued, the signs were all there, she was always trying to nap, lethargic, disappeared longer. Wish we had paid more attention to her💔💔💔

Bald eagle in the wild lived from 15 to 25 years. Only in captivity is at 20 to 30.

Some of you in the comments do not pass the vibe test at all. Putting blame on the staff at Ojai raptor center for her death is obtuse and cruel. Please be more informed before you comment and villainize a group of people who dedicated around the clock care for her for over 20 days. They loved her too and are even more devastated than we can ever imagine as she died while in their care. She was sick and too far gone. It’s unusual for eagles to lay a second clutch so soon after the first clutch. As it is depleting nutrient-wise for humans to birth life, this also can affect birds as well. Jackie’s ultimate sacrifice is her gift to the world: Luna and Sandy.

I feel the 2nd clutch did her in. The physiological effects of that were too much for her

There are specialists and non specialists who have worked on worse conditions, be it birds, animals and other species and who have survived, recovered and set free in the wild.
Jackie was not an old heck, she was young just 14, and looked sharp in her last day photo. No doubt she was weak and needed treatment, medications and therapy to recover from her illness.
So just bcos people have doubts or questions, it does not make them stupid, to call them names, more over people donated a hell lot of money to ORC for Jackie to recover, so now people should shut up and sit quietly without asking questions??? Hmmm, interesting.

She could have just been a sickly baby, just like pets; some will live without any issues, while others are in an out of the vets ❤️

Bald Eagles usually live up to 15 - 20. So it is old age. She was a great mom suffering so much. But she had a wonderful life with kids and a loving husband. All good.

It's not quite true if a bald Eagle makes it to the adulthood, which 80% never do. Their true life expectancy is 15 years up to 30. So at fourteen, she was pretty close to when they are kind of expected to maybe pass

A second clutch is very hard on Eagles. She is the best mommy. 🥰

I feel that day that she didn’t receive the care she needed it 💔 They took too long for everything, and at the end, they did the bone marrow. That’s when she got The blood clots on her wing by her kidney.💔

15 to 20 yrs is normal in the wild, but not every one lives the max. Jackie lived more than most by raising so many beautiful babies

Please read up about eagles, in wild they survive maybe to age of 14-25 in captivity there ages go up alot maybe 25-35 maybe higher in a very healthy bird. So Jackie lived her life, she would be turning 15. Bless her sweet soul!

I still have questions. To much, prodding, test, blood she was stressed out. They should have fed her and got her strong and let her go home. To much experimenting on her.

It wasn’t from an illness. She was attacked by another younger eagle and she was hurt. Then other complications happened while they were fixing her wing.
