@civilianhummer1: I’ve been carrying this anger toward my dad for 30 years. They got divorced a long time ago, but I still end up dealing with my mom’s problems… and then I feel like a loser for not being over it by now. Anyone else still dealing with stuff that should’ve been buried a long time ago? #FamilyIssues #Dad #Divorce #Emotional #fyp

How insightful for you to see what divorce does to the entire family. You’re not a loser or a failure. You’re doing the best you can. 🥰

My parents divorced when I was 5, I’m 44 now. My mother was a single mother to 3 girls. All those years she had to figure it all out alone. She had a brother that helped a lot. Then her son in laws took over. She passed away 10 years ago she was only 64. It was cancer. I’ve had so much anger especially as an adult with a husband and children towards my father for how she had to live and alone till she died so young. My heart feels it was because she had so much stress for sooo many years alone with 3 little girls. She was amazing, so strong, never said a bad word about that man.

that's a legitimate struggle. but please don't forget that the plug doesn't get pulled from one end and if so maybe one side who pushed the other side to pull the plug. so maybe you should not be angry of your dad, nor your mother. but as a man you know when go through struggle, its always silent. that kind of struggle that pushed your dad to pull the plug or pushed to do so. maybe also your dad is struggling...but silently as a man, maybe he needs your help too

I have never resonated so much with someone and their story. Thank you for this vulnerability. Life sucks, but I can see you’re killing it. Give yourself some grace, sir. You are showing up evening when there is nothing left to give. Big hugs!

Your mom‘s issue is not your dad’s responsibility. It’s yours and your brothers and if you have a sister now your dad he went on with his life, but your mom didn’t so that’s on her, you have to help her no matter what get the funds from your bro split the cost

It doesn’t take a divorce to have a totally absent husband.

I mean this in the kindest, gentlest way…but your mom is of an age that even if she had been married all these years, she could be single at any time. You were never going to reach the “end” without one of your parents being alone and needing you. I think it’s time to work through your anger for your dad, and perhaps ask if some of your anger is, instead, about being “sandwiched” between 2 generations that need you. Your feelings are very genuine and justified. Your brother needs to share the burden.

هذه صياغة إنجليزية دافئة ومناسبة كتعليق، من دون أن تقلل من تعبه أو مشاعره: I truly understand that caring for an aging parent can be physically and emotionally demanding, and your feelings are completely valid. Yet there is something deeply meaningful about caring for our mothers. They carried us, protected us, stayed awake through our illnesses, and faced countless worries and hardships while raising us. Perhaps that very oven once prepared some of the most delicious meals and happiest memories of your childhood. My mother is 80 years old, and I thank God for the blessing of being able to care for her. Before leaving for work, I prepare her breakfast and make sure her lunch and dinner are ready. I help her bathe, and every month I organize her medications in special containers. I placed sun and moon stickers on them so she can easily distinguish between her daytime and nighttime medicines. Every other day, I take her to a club designed for people in her age group. I feel truly blessed to care for both my mother and my children. My children are teenagers under 18, yet they treat me with so much love and gentleness because they are learning, through what they see, the meaning of honoring and caring for one’s parents. This is how love continues through generations. One day, when we grow older, we may also need someone’s patience, kindness, and care. What we give with love today often finds its way back to us tomorrow. May God give you strength, reward your kindness, ease your heart, and bless every moment you spend caring for your mother. You are doing more than you realize.

You are lucky that your mother turns to you when she needs something. That is not a burden; it is an honor and a blessing. Remember how she carried you, cared for you, and sacrificed for you when you were a child. Now you have the beautiful opportunity to give back a small part of what she gave you. Whatever happened between your mother and father 30 years ago, and regardless of whose responsibility these things should have been, don’t let their past take away your chance to honor your mother today. Be proud that you are the first person she calls. It means she sees you as her support, her hope, and someone she can depend on. One day, you may wish you could hear her voice again saying, “My son, I need your help.” Cherish that privilege while you still have it.

It’s okay to pull the plug on a marriage but the person with the most power, who benefited the most from the marriage needs to pay the person whose labour they benefited from.

I got divorced 15 years ago and I still haven’t recovered. I will prob never be financially stable for the rest of my life, into retirement. I was a SAHM and was out of the workforce for 12 years and had to start over like a college kid at 41. It’s been a rocky road.

If your father had died instead of divorcing your mom, you'd be doing the same but you shouldn't have to carry this cross by yourself, talk to your siblings and tell then you're overwhelmed and need help. You're a good son and one day when she's gone you'll be at peace because you took good care of her 🙏
