Lawlor testified that he could not hear their conversation but later learned Clancy used Zeizel’s phone to call Patrick Clancy and said she had heard voices. On cross-examination, Lawlor confirmed that investigators later discussed whether Zeizel was the reason Clancy made that statement. But he also agreed there was no investigative basis supporting that idea and characterized it as another investigator’s speculation. Prosecutors emphasized that Lawlor never heard either conversation himself and that investigators routinely discuss theories that can change as evidence develops. Clancy is charged with murdering her children, Cora, Dawson and Callan.
