@thom.code: Part 5 ~ Every Free App You Actually Need Explained Windows Search is embarrassing. Dropbox is expensive. And somehow your phone and computer still can't talk to each other. Part 4 of this series fixes all of that — and replaces even more paid software you probably didn't realize you were overpaying for. Across all four parts, we've now replaced well over $4,000 a year in paid software, for exactly $0. 📚 What you'll learn: How Everything searches millions of files almost instantly by reading your drive's Master File Table instead of relying on Windows' broken search index Why Syncthing is a zero-subscription Dropbox alternative that syncs files directly between your own devices with no company server in the middle — and can save you $120/year How Penpot is giving Figma serious competition as a fully free, open-source design tool built on open web standards — with unlimited users and projects on its self-hosted version Why Proton Pass offers unlimited passwords, unlimited devices, and 10 hide-my-email aliases for free, with the same zero-knowledge encryption behind Proton Mail and Proton VPN How KDE Connect finally makes your phone and computer talk to each other — shared clipboard, phone notifications on your desktop, wireless file transfers, and more Why Parsec's game-streaming roots make it the smoothest free remote desktop tool available, while TeamViewer charges $25/month for similar features How VSCodium gives you the full VS Code experience without Microsoft's telemetry quietly running in the background Why Scribus is a surprisingly capable free alternative to Adobe InDesign for anyone doing professional print layouts — saving around $260/year ⏱️ Timestamps: 0:00 Everything 1:28 Syncthing 2:52 Penpot 4:10 Proton Pass 5:38 KDE Connect 7:07 Parsec 7:53 VSCodium

Amine :
it's arguably very unstable, privacy shrewd and overall not very good software you're likely better off using Android tools and whatever the iOS equivalent of it is

It's so glitchy for me with random issues all the time, connection failure, files aren't transferring, clipboard not shared etc

KDE Connect works best with Dolphin (the KDE Plasma file manager). Whenever your phone is available, it’s visible from within Kde Connect as if it were connected via USB, and you can freely access its storage. The phone connects automatically whenever you’re on the same Wi-Fi network, provided you allow it to run in the background on Android. kdeconnectd always runs in the background (at least on Linux) and listens for connections.

It has privacy issues. For example, it replicates the computer's clipboard to the phone. It's useful to be able to copy and paste between devices, but replication is dangerous. That means that the phone sees very private data, like bank passwords, ssh and api keys and cryptowallet secrets.
