1988 college. Milk crates, mini mini fridge...bed in a bag. that's it. and IT WAS PERFECT! No wonder this generation is griping about leaving their parents home after college and paying their own bills...wild!

The dorm room photos from the girls dorms when my son was a freshman at LSU were wild. Then when he moved out, so much of that stuff was sitting in the dumpsters. Dorm room move outs are the best times to go dumpster diving.

I don’t think people realize how they are setting up their kids to fail financially after they get out of college. They are going to be used to having everything perfect all the time. That is why so many young people are getting into debt so badly to keep up appearances. Unless you are planning to financially support your kids in the future, don’t start this mistake.

My kid was a freshman last year— probably spent a couple hundred dollars for everything (storage, bedding, etc) . She was perfectly happy and it was easy for her to move home.

I spent my last year of high-school clipping pics out of magazine then plastered them all over my wall, hung christmas lights on the ceiling and they used my room for room tours for upcoming students lol. I miss the 90s

I will tell you. As someone who worked I. housing and residential life at universities, most of that stuff has to be taken down the first weekend it’s there. Most of that has to be removed for policy reasons and fire hazards. Waste of money.

My mom dropped me off in 1990 something and said “ here’s two posters, don’t do drugs and see ya at Thanksgiving”. We figured out how to make our rooms our space, and what we wanted. These parents need to get over the fact that is what happened to them and stop trying to make a perfect life and easy life for their kids. It is a false sense of reality.

I honestly think the kids do NOT care, it’s for the parents. I’m sure half those kids would have been just fine with a regular ass dorm room. But the parents can’t let the kids just be regular degular.

My kid goes to a state school. Can’t hang curtains. Can only cover 1/4 of the walls. Only LED lights can be hung. The dorm rooms look like dorm rooms. It’s fantastic 😂.

I showed up in 1994 with a bed in a bag, some towels, clothes, a poster or two and a used mini fridge…oh and a landline phone. 😆

My girls dorm rooms beatiful. Furnished. Amazon and target. Would never paint. Wall paper or get furniture
