@womens_health2: One common cause is an ingrown hair. When you shave, the hair is cut very close to the skin. As it grows back, it can sometimes curl back into the skin instead of growing outward. Your body may react to that trapped hair, causing a small red, itchy, tender or painful bump. Another possibility is razor burn or folliculitis—inflammation or infection involving the hair follicles. And ladies, this is why you may notice the bumps a few days after shaving, rather than immediately. 😭 Why does it happen? Some things can increase your chances of getting these bumps: * Shaving too closely * Using a blunt or dirty razor * Shaving against the direction of hair growth * Going over the same area repeatedly * Dry shaving * Tight underwear or clothing rubbing the area * Having naturally curly or coarse hair 🚫 Please don’t do this! If you get a bump after shaving, don’t keep squeezing, picking or popping it. You can introduce bacteria into the area and make the inflammation worse. Also, please don’t put harsh products like lemon, toothpaste, alcohol or strong antiseptics on the vulva trying to make the bump disappear. 😭 🩺 When should you get checked? A shaving-related bump should generally improve, but seek medical assessment if: * It becomes very painful or rapidly enlarges * There is significant swelling or pus * You develop fever * The redness is spreading * You keep getting recurrent bumps * The bump doesn’t heal or keeps coming back * You’re unsure whether it’s actually an ingrown hair And remember: not every bump around the vulva is an ingrown hair. Cysts, infections and other conditions can look similar, so persistent or unusual lesions should be examined. So my ladies, shaving is a personal choice, but if every time you shave you develop painful bumps, your skin may be telling you that something about your shaving routine needs to change. ❤️ And please—DON’T SQUEEZE IT That post-shaving bump may not be an STI! 👀 But don’t assume every vulvar bump is an ingrown hair either. Know the difference and know when to seek help. 🩷#fyppppppppppppppppppppppp #foryoupage #foryou #WomensHealth #goviral
