I agree with you like 100% hydes are very interesting creatures? I think? They’re the only outcasts among the outcasts and maybe that’s why they call tyler’s storyline “boring” cause they’re doing terrible job and exploring hyde and its nature also can you talk about the ship “catradora” cause i really REALLY wanna hear your opinion on it 🥹✌🏻

I’ve listened to everything carefully, and in a way, I don’t see why I wouldn’t agree. The only issue is that it relies on a completely different canon. Yes, in an AU—where Tyler isn’t a bloodthirsty psychopath who kills for pleasure even without a master, isn’t a lost cause, and doesn’t deserve redemption (like, SERIOUSLY, none at all); in a completely different universe where it’s just not the same character or where Hydes are treated properly—yeah, that would be awesome and interesting... but that’s just not the world we’re in. It’s far too late to do that without it being bad; they’re two seasons deep into world-building based on the hard, unchangeable fact that Tyler is a piece of trash—it’s too late to try tackling those kinds of themes now.

I think to me Tyler’s storyline is the only one that’s well paced, it’s clear to me what their plan is and his dynamic with Wednesday is one of the few enemies to something/enemies with feelings that I enjoy and that is believable given the setting of the story (compared to other “similar” dynamics like Timebomb), I think season 3 is the season where the set up from season 2 can finally pay off, I think it’s becoming annoying because we had to wait 3 years for season 2 and we still have no answers (things felt repetitive) but that’s because they needed a season for Tyler and Wednesday to cool off, the finale for season 2 was an inverse mirror of the finale for season 1 and season 3 has the potential to make season 2 better on a rewatch because it can finally reap the results of that set up.

Tyler’s hyde story isn’t as well explored as it could be, and the worst part is that his story is the best explored in the entire series 😭😭

The overall weak worldbuilding of this series, coupled with the fact that there are few and relatively short episodes, creates the feeling that the Hydes are EXCESSIVELY explored within the narrative; when in reality they are the only ones truly being addressed. The series has mermaids, gorgons, werewolves, vampires, da Vincis, and yet we barely see anything about them. It's not because they are prioritizing the Hydes, but because they are prioritizing fitting within the budget.

the thing that makes hydes so important is that they are the ones who are excluded from the outcasts for their violent nature, and them being isolated leads to people who want to use them for nefarious purposes having an easier time. it’s kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, a vicious cycle these people are just trapped in that their society — the people preaching about community — set up, and i don’t want it to remain like that and hope that’s where the show is headed. we still don’t know what led to their ban, and tbh i could see them going with a scapegoat situation and everyone just bought it because, well hydes are just naturally violent after all. we won’t try to protect or accommodate them though, unlike all of these other potentially dangerous species (i always think of the werewolves and the lupin cages as their accommodation). the social commentary and especially tyler’s lack of shame in who he is when that’s one of the things society probably tries to enforce on hydes so they don’t get seen, are truly engaging to me. sure can be executed better and they should have emphasised a lot of things more so that it’s easier to see where they are heading with this, but i truly don’t get the hatred for the hyde mythology. maybe at most i get that people think it doesn’t translate well into the plot
