After doing research I’ve come to the conclusion the specific phrase “mind you” isn’t AAVE. It’s the context of how it’s being used. As he said in the video the British use it one way, Americans use it another, and Black Americans specifically use it in a different context with some nuance to each. So in my opinion everyone’s right. But let’s not invalidate Black Americans because we are taking the traditional phrase and using it a touch differently within our communities. That’s generally what AAVE is as much as yall want to deny it.

For the people commenting that “mind you” is AAVE/a black American creation—no, it’s not 💀 it predates the United States by multiple centuries; one of the earliest extant examples of this phrasing being used is all the way back around the year 1,000 CE, in the Lacnunga. "Mind you" essentially comes from Old English, specifically the phrase “ġemyne þū.” The construction of command + pronoun is why phrases like “mind you” and “hear ye, hear ye” are written like that. ✨Mind you✨, all of this information was quick, easy, and readily available to find on Google.com. Y’all should try that sometime instead of parroting easily debunked BS 😊
