It’s take 10 years to become nz citizen then 4-5 years to get Australian citizenships total 15 years. And you guys are saying it’s easy back door. Hahaha 🤣

Is he insinuating NZ’s citizenship process is subpar? We don’t just hand out citizenship to anyone, and it isn’t exactly any easier 🤦♂️Also NZ citizens contribute more to the labour force than Australians, marginally yes, but still an important point

My family and I have been here 20 years. It was not as simple as purely " not becoming Australian citizens ". My mother went through the permanent residency rigmarole befor ethe new changes. It cost $11k and took 5 years just for that! Even then, after the wait and money paid, it can be denied. Is this conversation about genuine Kiwis or - those using NZ for a short period of time in order to gain Australian citizenship?

people say it as it is as easy as waking up one day and say: ohh I want to become a NZ citizen, let me grab my bags and get there.. close your eyes and 5 years later you get citizenship.. c'mon..!!!!

The rules were relaxed a few years ago to allow Kiwi’s that have lived here for many years, worked, paid taxes and most have raised children which were born here to apply for citizenship. Previously it was a very expensive and intrusive procedure which put off a lot us applying for citizenship. Remember we can’t vote, get any benefits on a 444 visa. Once we apply for citizenship we then go through a character test which checks any criminal convictions both here and in New Zealand. We have to also have met other criteria. I don’t know any Kiwi’s that apply for citizenship for any other reason that they love living here, have contributed loads to this amazing country for many years and are grateful to become a citizen of this country…I understand that technically one could become a New Zealand citizen after living there 4 years and then move over here to do the whole thing again…I seriously doubt you are going to get the dregs of the earth going through this process just to get here….

No, it isn’t easy in either country. It is expensive, it is time-consuming, and it is sometimes incredibly personally costly because of how you were treated by the system.

well if u see australias permanent residents they can come to new zealand stay as long as they want work freely and enjoy all the benefits thats what albo did i see it as a fair case new zealand looks after the australias residents and albo looked after new zealands citizens give and take mate i scratch your back and u scratch mine its not like australia is doing a great blessings on us lol
