@foxnews: A hero's welcome for K-9 Ace. The 7-year-old German shepherd walks back into the Polk County Sheriff's Office on three legs, surrounded by the deputies he helped protect just days earlier. Ace was critically wounded after authorities say a suspect opened fire as deputies attempted an arrest. His handler rushed him to safety, but the damage to his left front leg was so severe veterinarians had to amputate it. Now Ace is recovering and preparing for a well-earned retirement after nearly six years of service.
