There could have been a civilization long before us, that was so advanced they got GTA 6 on time and under budget.

Video missed the point of the paper. The authors explicitly stated in the paper that they strongly doubt any such civilization ever existed. The point of the paper was to demonstrate that an ancient industrial civilization could vanish without physical traces, leaving only chemical climate spikes that are virtually indistinguishable from natural planetary events.

It's a romantic idea. But the reality is if there were previous advanced civilizations, you don't need to look for the existence of evidence, you look for the missing resources. You won't have coal, fossil fuel, basic minerals conveniently scattered on the surface all over the world. Those take millions to hundreds of millions of years to form.

the evidence isn't what we would have, it's what would be missing. oil, coal, and metals were too readily available in raw forms. any past industries civilization would have used those and left nothing for us to find.

this is a massive misrepresentation of the actual paper. it was a hypothesis only created to highlight the lack of ability to show the causes of certain geological structures. it in no way seriously posits the possibility of previous advanced civilizations as the paper notes there would be countless lasting signatures outside of leftover buildings, and sediment records.

Doesn't thing like dinosaur fossils kinda u do this? If they exist, so would other fossilized records.

We may never know for certain if there was another intelligent species predating humanity which had a civilization. But if it did, it wasn't as advanced as ours because otherwise we'd see what they left behind on the Moon.

the very composition of steel has been changed due to us using Atomic Weapons. Our Industrial Revolution has/will forever leave it's mark on the geological and botanical record. If there were an advanced civilization in our past we would definitely find evidence 😁 Occam's Razor

I don’t think that an industrial non human civilization existed before us, but that doesn’t mean that pre-industrial non human civilizations never rose and fell

One serious doubt based on your presentation: where are the fossilized beings that created such a possible civilization?

There is currently no empirical evidence that a prior industrial civilization existed, but the exercise helps scientists understand how deep-time planetary changes would record human impacts in the distant future.

civilization is the tricky word here. are we talking Rome or the United States? there is practically no chance there is a missing U.S type civilization, it would be too many pieces to miss. A Rome 50 million years ago...sure. heck they could have been the size of squirrels.

Romantic fantasy, but didn't happen. We have dinosaur bones from 90 million years ago, but no human bones? No plastic residue? no iron cogs, wheels etc? Unlikely.

This mentioned it briefly, but chose to kind of gloss over the fact that even if ancient cities crumbled away, an advanced civilization can’t hide its global footprint of microplastics, forever chemicals, or genetic disruptions. Since our planet's deep geological and evolutionary records show absolutely zero signs of these markers, there simply isn't a missing chapter where a past society could hide. Basically, there probably wasn't an ancient unknown industrial civilization. There may have been species with early signs of developing civilization, though.
