@magnoliapharmacy: Her cholesterol jumped and nobody asked why. They just wrote the prescription. Thyroid hormone controls how fast you clear LDL from your blood. Thyroid slows down, clearance slows down, cholesterol goes up. The cholesterol is the symptom, not the problem. And this is in the guideline. Rule out hypothyroidism before starting a cholesterol lowering drug, then recheck the panel after thyroid levels normalize. It is written down and it gets skipped. It also compounds. Untreated low thyroid is a known risk factor for statin muscle pain. One question to ask. Did anyone check my thyroid before we started this. Yep! This worked for me and my cholesterol. I’m 52 and “postmenopausally” my cholesterol started climbing. Functional medicine NP looked at my thyroid closer. Thank goodness! I’m glad you’re spreading the word.

my doctor has known for years about my high Ldl and I just went back on a statin but recent lab draw shows my TSH is 5.030 so now im on meds for both kinda wish she would've thought to address thyroid first to see if that lowers my ldl I really don't like having to be on a statin 😏
