Think of flossing like working out. You don’t stop working out because your muscles are sore. You keep working out so you get stronger. Same thing with floss. You floss more to keep your gums strong and healthy. Hope that helps. Sincerely, a dental hygienist

...your mouth bleeds because you dont floss, it means your gums are inflamed from the bacteria accumulating under it. Floss CORRECTLY everyday for at least 2 weeks to get that to stop. Floss daily to make it never come back. Bleeding wont stop if you have tartar build up under your gums. Get a professional dental cleaning for that and you should be set.

So this is a crazy concept but when you actually floss on a routine basis, your gums don’t bleed. My gums haven’t bled in over 15 years.

Are you using the correct floss for your teeth? Are you using string floss or floss sticks? Are you using the correct technique? Are you a mouth breather? No special floss is going to automatically make your irritated gums not bleed. I hate to even bring this up but if you did a No 2 and had a hemorrhoid and it was painful to wipe would you not clean that area or would you try to use other means to keep clean until healed? Floss more and add a water flosser to help flush everything out. Hope this helps

Bacteria and food that stay in between your teeth cause your gums to get inflamed. When you remove that bacteria and food and the gums are inflamed, they bleed. If you remove the food and bacteria everyday with floss, it doesn’t stay there long enough to irritate the gums. Does this make sense?

It also might be the technique while flossing. Often we just push down between the teeth and it will cut the gums. When passing the floss between the teeth push in the direction of one of the teeth so it slides under the gums and doesn’t cut the gums.

Sorry but it’s not the floss making you bleed, it’s gingivitis . It’s the inflammation in your gums from the lack of flossing and proper brushing. Start fresh, go get your teeth professionally cleaned and make sure you floss daily religiously so your gums don’t get inflamed and bleed again. It will be tender at the beginning. Your gums will throb for a couple weeks until they get used to to it. Also need to brush twice a day and make sure you brush at the gum line as well. Use some anbesol to numb your gums if it’s too tender.
