@meraparenti: I saw someone say “why would anyone choose RAP it’s insanely high” .. this might answer that for them. The same plan doesn’t work across circumstances, so high-earners make sure to evaluate what an income driven plan is doing for you #StudentLoans #studentdebt #medstudent #gradstudent #mba

It’s the negative amort that gets you. My understanding is the RAP has no negative amort. What about the others?

Does it make more sense to the standard plan on 20 years? I feel like it makes the most sense (I am a young attorney and I took out a lot of loans for school- the 10 year plan as me at 2400 a month).

Why do people not do standard repayment and get it done in 10 years? Genuinely curious bc that’s what I’m doing

Thoughts on refinancing some of the loans? For example i have ~210k in loans with about 100k of it being at 7% interest which is pretty damn high 🙃 the other 100k is between 2-5% which is much better

My income under RAP was double what just my standard repayment is. Just letting them roll into standard at this point

What would be your recommendation for low middle class earners making approximately 70k?

My rap is 2200 a month. Standard is ~$900 and won’t change. Since I’m consolidated, it’s a 30 year standard. If I pay ~ $1500 (still massively lower than the $2200) I can pay the balance in around 11 years and actually save more overall than I would have done under rap.

Which one would you pick as high earner if trying to pay as less as possible due to private practice paying it off throughout the years

Very important PSA! And I believe if you switch to IBR later (aka your payments get too high under RAP) your payments under RAP will not count towards forgiveness

What drives me nuts is they wont even give me option of the 10 year repayment anymore, the only show standard extended bc of my loan amount. But I would LOVE to pay it off. Extended makes so much more interest kick in.

Yeah all of the income driven repayments were more than any of the other plans and nearly more than the standard repayment plan. Went with the graduated

its funny because my standadd plan payment would be $2200 and end in Q1 of 2036. Whereas if I did RAP, my payment would be ~$2080 and end in Q4 of 2034.

Make sure income based federal student loan plans even make sense if you’re a high earner hoping to get loan forgiveness 👀
