my friend's friend recently tried to call me out at a group hang out by saying "youre only so happy because youve never been through anything." everyone went silent because they KNOW. i stopped smiling, looked them straight in the eye and said "want me to talk about how one of my first memories is my grandma scrubbing my skin raw with bleach and steelwool or I could talk about watching my dad trying to choke my mom to death for the first time when i was only 4...you choose. I have more options if those dont do it for you" then went back to happily talking about something else.
