This is something I miss about Japan... in Australia this would have no insulation, significant water damage, and mold; and you'd STILL be charged ~$500AUD a week for it.

The thing about Japan is yes the apartments are small and not very luxurious, but they’re cheap. You actually get what you pay for. In NYC they want $3000 a month for a place like that.

That’s a rough $155-190 USD depending on the currency exchange rate. That’s dumb cheap for a secure roof over your head with your own bathroom and little kitchen. That’s a come up!!!!

The lower rent can be influenced by factors such as thinner walls, being a little farther from the nearest train station, and the more rural location. It’s simple and compact, but practical for someone mainly looking for an affordable place to live. Would you choose a cheaper apartment like this, or pay more for a newer place closer to the station? 🇯🇵👇

it is small if you compare it to an American apartment because most of them are pretty large for one bedroom however like you said it has everything you need except maybe a washer and dryer
