@history_emporium: Discovered in Denmark in 1921, the Egtved Girl is one of the best-preserved Bronze Age burials ever found in Europe. She was a young woman, probably around 16–18 years old, who died around 1370 BCE, more than 3,300 years ago. Her remarkably well-preserved clothing included a short, corded wool skirt, a cropped wool top, a belt with a large bronze disc, and bronze bracelets. Her outfit attracted huge attention because it looked surprisingly different from what many people imagined Bronze Age clothing would look like. But archaeologists now know it was not simply a fashion statement. Her clothing, jewellery and burial goods provide clues about Bronze Age craftsmanship, social status, trade and cultural connections across northern Europe. Scientific analysis of her teeth and hair has also suggested that she grew up outside the area where she was buried and travelled significant distances during her final years. The Egtved Girl’s grave gives us a rare glimpse into the life of a young woman who lived more than 3,000 years ago—and shows that Bronze Age societies were far more connected and sophisticated than we often imagine.
