In Ukraine, it’s called калина (kalyna?), and it grows almost EVERYWHERE. I live in the city, and even in my backyard they grow. We use it in folk medicine, and we harvest it after the first freeze to remove the bitterness and toxicity. It must either be harvested after a freeze or cooked... like making jam or a filling for pies. The juice can be used as a cough syrup... add sugar and store it in the fridge.
