@steven: The sleep disorder 1 billion adults have and don't know about 🛌 But what exactly is sleep apnea? It's a condition where your airway gets blocked while you sleep, causing you to stop breathing and jolt awake - often without ever realising it. Dr Andy Galpin explains why obesity is the biggest risk factor: when you lie down, excess body water shifts to your neck and throat, which can block your airway. But he's also clear this isn't just an "overweight man's problem." Most women with sleep apnea never find out. Instead, their symptoms are often misread as stress, anxiety, or depression. Signs to watch for: - Heavy, constant snoring - Waking up tired even after a full night's sleep - Dry mouth in the morning - Gasping for air at night

Also the solution is to sleep with a giant mask on your face! Come up with something smaller and less uncomfortable for people who don’t sleep on their back.

Both my husband and I have sleep apnea. We are in our early 50s, both pretty fit. On CPAP for a year, both feel so much better.

Women are also much more likely to not be believed by their healthcare providers or to have their concerns downplayed or blamed on stress or hormones.

I work as HR consultant for 6 sleep apnea Clinical in Quebec/Canada. I live now in UK and I can say ( I have sleep apnea too and been seen by NHS for it) it have to improve so much! I feel UK you’re sooo far of what we do in Quebec… Doctors here don’t see it as we do in Canada. Us we offer free test and you do it from home. The facts that private clinical can’t work in partnership with NHS makes things awfull here. If we did accept to work in partnership with private we could help so many people! I wish I can meet a respiratory physician and we can speak about this. I feel UK need to understand more how been treated for sleep apnea changes life.

I’m 42 and was diagnosed last year. I had to go private in the UK. It’s changed my life and I’m no longer taking antidepressants.

And CPAP machines are seriously a pain, but many of us still endure it because it’s the only solution that insurance pays for

Does he mention UARS (upper airway resistance syndrome) this is when your airway narrows when you are asleep more of an anatomical condition. 😳

I am one of those women and doctors told me oh it’s because you have a young child and you’re running a business. Then I was sent to a woman’s health specialist and she said yeah you’re getting older and it’s your hormones. It was my mom who had to say you need to get your sleep tested. I am forever grateful as it’s changed my life.

Am I the only one thinking the "reasons" women are u diagnosed he is listing are the ones we as women get told by the mainly male doctors that don't take us seriously and not because we don't think it's serious? 😅

I think your answers were generic as well I am now 70 and I still think that a simple procedure lifting the excess skin on the trachea cuz I've laid down and I've held that up and I can breathe let go of it I can't breathe I think it's too simple

Sleep apnea in women does go undiagnosed until you develop a heart arrhythmia. First test my cardiologist ordered was a sleep study and was a positive result
